vcnl4040partThe VCNL4040 like the VCNL4020 and VCNL4010 includes an infrared emitter, photodiode for proximity, an ambient light photodiode and signal processing IC all on a single CMOS chip. What is really new about the VCNL4040 is that you can select one of four ambient light ranges. If you take all 65,000 counts that make up the 16-bit resolution and put them in the lux range from 0 to 819, you get 0.0125 lux per count which is very fine resolution. On that note, we consider the VCNL4040 the finest integrated proximity and ambient light sensor available. Samples await you.
